Emergency Preparedness and Interoperability Grants for Fire Departments & EMS

DHS/FEMA - Assistance to Firefighter Grants (AFG Grants)

Total Funding Available in FY 2009: $565,000,000

Purpose: Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) provide financial assistance directly to fire departments and nonaffiliated EMS organizations to enhance their capabilities with respect to fire and fire-related hazards.

Eligible Applicants: Eligible applicants for AFG are limited to fire departments and nonaffiliated EMS organizations. Fire departments or nonaffiliated EMS organizations operating in any of the 50 States plus the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and Puerto Rico are eligible for funding.

Awards: Funds will be allocated based on competitive evaluation basis.
